Attorney General: The Special Investigation Unit has proven its ability to protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Dr. Ali bin Fadhul Al-Buainain announced today the launch of the national training program to enhance the capacities of those concerned with the protection of human rights in the criminal justice system, which is organized by the Special Investigation Unit in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies and the Royal Police Academy, with the participation of a group of officials and members of institutions and mechanisms National human rights protection bodies and law enforcement officials.

This came during the opening session, which was held this morning at the Gulf Hotel, in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mrs. Halabint Mohammed Al Ansari, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, His Excellency Mr. Osama bin Ahmed Al Asfour, Minister of Social Development, and His Excellency Lieutenant-General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, President Public Security, in the presence of Mr. Khalid Al Maqwad, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Mr. Firas Ghorabiya, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program.

His Excellency the Attorney General stressed during his opening speech to the activities of the training program that human rights have become one of the pillars of national action necessary to create an integrated work system that works to achieve sustainable development in the country in its various aspects under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom, may God protect him. He explained that the Special Investigation Unit is one of the most prominent institutional achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights protection, as it has proven its ability as an independent judicial body to carry out its responsibilities in partnership with all national bodies and mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights in the criminal justice system, due to its union and cohesion on clear and firm goals, namely, the enforcement of the rule of law, and the promotion of human rights in concept and reality, and then control of human rights practices that are most infringed when they come into contact in one way or another with justice procedures.

His Excellency added that this training program gains its importance from the organization with the Royal Police Academy, which plays a very influential role in guiding and guiding those in charge of law enforcement, within the framework of fruitful cooperation with the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies and effective cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, in light of concerted efforts to enforce The Kingdom’s future vision to advance human rights, and achieve the goals of the National Human Rights Plan (2026-2022) by raising the level of legal awareness of these rights and their optimal implementation in accordance with the highest international human rights standards.

While His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, praised, during his speech, the distinguished efforts of the Special Investigation Unit in spreading and promoting a culture of human rights, and working to ensure justice and equity, which crystallized in its organization of this national training program, with the participation of all spectrums of Bahraini society and workers in various ministries and bodies Governmental and private institutions and civil society organizations, which achieves the Kingdom’s plan to enhance cooperation in the field of human rights, and its constant to receive continuous high-level training for those concerned and workers in the field of human rights protection that contributes to increasing their knowledge and upgrading their capabilities in this important field, after the Kingdom has become a pioneering model in the region in the field of promoting, respecting and protecting human rights. He praised the contribution and cooperation of the United Nations Development Program, the Royal Police Academy and the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies in organizing this distinguished training program, wishing everyone success in achieving the goals.

While Lieutenant-General Tariq Al-Hassan, Head of Public Security, indicated during his speech that human rights constitute a main focus in the security work system and its development, and that the participation of employees of the Ministry of Interior in this national training program comes within the framework of implementing the requirements and objectives of the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026) and based on the base of partnership and the strengthening of training mechanisms, which has become a main focus in the development of security work, in light of the programs carried out by the Royal Police Academy, which aim to develop the training system for security cadres; In a way that contributes to the consolidation of a culture of human rights in security work as it is an integral part of field performance, and he concluded his speech by expressing his appreciation to the Special Investigation Unit for organizing this ambitious national training program.

For his part, Mr. Firas Ghorabiya, Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program, expressed his happiness to be present in this scientific forum organized by the Special Investigation Unit, which is considered one of the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in support of the rule of law. He also praised the effective role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain in developing the roles of mechanisms National protection and restorative justice, through the establishment of mechanisms and national protection devices and administrative and judicial remedies that work to secure rights and preserve freedoms, and are concerned with effective oversight of national law enforcement agencies, and at the conclusion of his speech he looked forward to the continuation of effective cooperation between the United Nations Development Office and the Special Investigation Unit; In order to work towards achieving the sustainable development goals of peace, justice and strong institutions.

The Acting Attorney General and Head of the Special Investigation Unit, Mr. Mohammad Khalid Al-Hazaa, reviewed the details of the national training program, its axes and objectives, which is scheduled to last for six months and include many workshops and discussion sessions, during which a group of legal experts in the field of human rights protection will speak, with the participation of a legal and human rights group of judges, members of the Public Prosecution, members and affiliates of national institutions, mechanisms and bodies concerned with the protection of human rights, in the presence of many members of the public security forces from various departments and security and correctional centers, as well as participants from the Shura and Representatives Councils, the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Waqf, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development, the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, the Supreme Council for Women, and many human rights committees and specialized councils and relevant civil society organizations.
