Launching of the workshop “International Human Rights Procedures and Mechanisms”
His Excellency the Attorney General, Dr. Ali bin Fadhul Al-Bouainain, initiated this morning at the Crown Plaza Hotel; Activities of the workshop “International Human Rights Procedures and Mechanisms”, organized by the Special Investigation Unit in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Human Rights Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Judicial Council and President of the Court of Cassation, and His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mrs. Hala bint Mohammed Al-Ansari, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women, His Excellency Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al-Hassan, Head of Public Security, and His Excellency Mr. Firas Gharaibeh, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in the Kingdom of Bahrain and a number of international experts, representatives and affiliates are participating in the workshop with a relevant national bodies, agencies and civil society organizations.
The workshop is scheduled to extend from November 13-14, and includes five specialized sessions, aiming to learn about the special procedures followed by international mechanisms in following up on human rights and national obligations towards them, the conditions for accepting communications and the procedures for classifying them, as well as studying the requirements for preparing reports and responding to International and best practices inquiries in this regard.
His Excellency the Attorney General, Dr. Ali bin Fadhul Al-Bouainain, delivered a speech at the opening of the workshop in which he noted the importance of its topics, indicating that the Kingdom of Bahrain has spared no effort to strengthen justice and the rule of law, and this is attested to by the legislative reviews that produced a comprehensive legal organization and a group of strong institutions force concerned with protecting human rights in all its affairs and practices, which are independent and pioneering national mechanisms, unique to the Kingdom regionally and distinguished internationally, and carry out its tasks impartially in accordance with the provisions of the law and constitutional and international principles, adding that these national bodies and institutions are constantly keen to evaluate performance with complete transparency. His Excellency the Attorney General also appreciated the keenness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate among the concerned authorities and enhance their capabilities as it is the interface that conveys to the international community the achievements made by the Kingdom in meeting the strictest requirements for caring for human rights in all practices in accordance with the international principles ratified by the Kingdom.
In his speech, His Excellency Mr. Firas Gharaibeh, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program, praised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to develop national protection mechanisms and restorative justice by strengthening those mechanisms and administrative and judicial remedies, and its efforts to secure rights, preserve freedoms, and achieve the goals of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Human Rights Plan 2022-2026, stressing the importance of the Special Investigation Unit as one of these national oversight mechanisms with an important impact in supporting the rule of law and promoting human rights principles in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ speech, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheery, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, stated that the reform project of His Majesty the King of the country has placed human rights as a main pillar of the state’s institutions and projects, which has enabled the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve achievement in this field at the local, regional and international levels, and the unlimited interest, care and support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for this important file has made the Kingdom of Bahrain today a model for respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, preserving his dignity, and consolidating justice, equality and the rule of law. On the other hand, he pointed out that the implementation of such workshops confirms the interest and keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain in strengthening national efforts to protect human rights, praising the existing cooperation and coordination between all concerned national authorities.
