Within the framework of the Special Investigation Unit’s to maintain constant communication with all national authorities; In order to enhance legal awareness of public rights and freedoms in the Kingdom and the national mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights in the criminal justice system, an educational seminar was held today between the Special Investigation Unit and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies, in which the head and members of the Special Investigation Unit and a group of Members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of diplomatic missions of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in it.
The symposium dealt with several axes, including the definition of human rights and oversight mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights in the Kingdom, the nature of the work of the Special Investigation Unit, its legal competencies and its application of international standards, especially the Istanbul Protocol to investigate and document cases of torture and ill-treatment.
